Background

Richard Riakporhe’s background started boxing late at the age of 19. His amateur career was short and unnoticeable – for the most part – but he scraped together enough experience to eventually turn professional in 2016.

Accomplishments

While Riakporhe debut win came by the way of points, he stringed together an impressive streak of stoppage wins. Though he remained relatively untested early on, in 2018 he faced the then-undefeated British competitor Sam Hyde, beating him soundly by TKO to also win his first mid-tier title. His next opponent was another British prospect, Tommy McCarthy, who he convincingly also put away by way of stoppage.

Chris Billiam-Smith – a British talent in his own right – was his following opponent in 2019. The match was hard-won, Riakporhe only narrowly won by split-decision, but he also won respect by holding firm during the bout and proving himself to be as skilled as he was tough.

In 2021 he met Nigerian contender Olanrewaju Durodola who he beat by way of TKO in the fifth round. He has remained undefeated so far, and has gradually stepped up the level of his opponents accordingly, regularly fighting boxers within the top 10 or top 15 of the governing body’s official ranking boards including the likes of Fabio Turchi in 2022, and Krysztof Glowacki in 2023.

Boxing Style

richard riakporhe boxing style

Richard Riakporhe is quick and versatile, fast on both his feet and with his hands. He has clear power that has allowed him to stop his opponents regularly. He can fight off the back and front foot and can be considered tricky in that manner, as he’ll always be dangerous whether he’s being pressured on the inside or boxed from the outside.
