Background
Mateusz Masternak was a competitive amateur, managing to win silver and bronze medals in several tournaments. He turned professional in 2006 when he made his pro boxing debut.
Accomplishments
Debuting as a Cruiserweight in 2006, Masternak became one of the most dangerous Cruiserweights in the division. He collected several international titles while moving up the rankings, and despite several losses – one most notably to Tony Bellew who would go on to become the WBC Cruiserweight champion WBC Cruiserweight champion not long after – he eventually challenged for the world title in 2018 agaisnt Cuban Yuniel Dorticos, and performed amicably but eventually lost by UD.
He found his winning streak again fairly quickly after his last loss and won himself another mid-tier title in 2021.
Boxing Style
Mateusz Masternak prefers to box his opponents, and has developed good and quick footwork as a result. He’s also a capable counterpuncher. He seems to be more comfortable on the front foot rather than the back foot, and he’s known to push the tempo of a fight, especially early on.
