Background

Some of the accomplishments of Marcus Browne as an amateur includes winning the US National Pal Championships in 2010 and the US National Championships in 2012. Browne also participated in the 2012 Olympics but stumbled to a loss in his first match against Australian Damien Hooper.

He became a professional not long after his Olympic participation in 2012.

Accomplishments

Marcus Browne started out as a Light-Heavyweight. Browne steadily tested the waters of the professional field of boxing, impressing early by recording a high amount of stoppages and knockouts. His first challenge came when facing the then-undefeated Radivoje Kalajdzic for the WBC USNBC title, narrowly beating the fellow American by split decision in 2016.

Browne continued to challenge himself in the next couple of years and showed a good account of himself beating a top-rated contender in Lenin Castillo in 2018. In his next match, he was matched with renowned world champion Badou Jack in 2019 who held the WBA interim title at that time. Browne won by unanimous decision in the contest against the veteran.

Later in that same year, he received the opportunity to add another veteran in Jean Pascal on his growing resume, but lost on the scorecards when the fight was stopped earlier in the eight round due to a cut he suffered when accidentally head-clashing with Pascal. Having suffered two knockdowns prior to the cut, the technical decision following the bout went in favor of Pascal, thus resulting in Browne’s first career loss.

He was out of the ring for nearly two years before returning in 2021 with a comeback unanimous decision victory. In 2022, he faced world champion Artur Beterbiev for his (WBC and IBF) world titles, but fell to the Russian late in the ninth round by knockout.

Boxing Style

marcus browne boxing style

Marcus Browne tends to box his opponents rather than engage with them directly – unless he sees his opponents are weakened enough to capitalize on. He uses his timing and reaction skills well to counter his opponents. Browne has decent defensive skills due to his tendency to box, and he has shown to be a powerful puncher with quick hands on multiple occassions.
