Background
Zhan Kossobutskiy had a fine amateur career, especially domestically when he won the Kazakh National Championship twice in a row in 2012 and 2013, as well as reaching 2nd place at the 2013 Universiade. He competed as a Super Heavyweight in the amateurs, and turned professional in 2017.
Accomplishments
Fresh off the amateur scene, Zhan Kossobutskiy’s first five professional fights were all won by stoppage or knockout. He would continue his knockout streak for his next fights save for one, and more recently stopped Heavyweight vet Johann Duhaupas on the 21st of May in 2022.
Boxing Style
Question marks surround the ability of Zhan Kossobutskiy due to the (low) level of opposition he’s faced thus far. His stoppage victory over Johann Duhaupas didn’t properly help his case, given Duhaupas has been considered a gatekeeper of the heavyweight division i.e. a solid but beatable opponent often involved in fighting prospects or high-ranked opponents looking for an easy matchup.
Kossobutskiy has shown to be fluent in the offensive and defensive sides of boxing, but as stated earlier his competition has been too underwhelming to properly analyze his full capabilities.
