Background
Jessica McCaskill compiled a 23-3 record in a short yet meaningful amateur career that saw her win the Golden Gloves on a local and state level three times. McCaskill entered the pro ranks of boxing in 2015.
Accomplishments
Though Jessica McCaskill started off on the right foot with her debut (as a Lightweight) where she managed to stop her opponent, her second match ended in a close split-decision less in her opponent’s favor. Not daunted by her loss, Jessica McCaskill continued her career to go on an unbeaten winning streak which resulted in her moving up the rankings rapidly.
By her seventh match, a year after her debut, she received her first world title opportunity against Olympics gold medalist Katie Taylor. Taylor proved to be the better woman on the night however, and McCaskill suffered her second career loss.
She decided to make the move up to Super Lightweight where she had immediate success in her first match in the division, winning by UD to seal her first title win with the WBC Super Lightweight world title against Érica Farías. Her second match in the division was a unification match with Anahí Ester Sánchez who she also soundly beat to unify for the first time of her career and earn the WBA title.
After retaining her two titles in 2019, she moved up afterwards to Welterweight where she was immediately watched with the division’s unified champion, Cecilia Brækhus in 2020. She came out victorious by a narrow majority decision, a win that shocked many due to her underdog status, and she yet again proved her talent by beating Brækhus for a second time in 2021. This time, she not only beat Brækhus more convincingly but she also became Undisputed when The Ring lineal title became available in the rematch.
She defended herself twice as undisputed champion since defeating Brækhus in their rematch. McCaskill therefore remained unbeaten until facing Chantelle Cameron on the 5th of November in 2022, who she lost to by unanimous decision. Despite her loss, she still remains the undisputed Welterweight champion as her Welterweight titles were not on the line for her fight with Cameron.
Boxing Style
Fighting out of the orthodox stance, Jessica McCaskill has embodied resilience, determination and strength throughout her career in three different divisions. She employs a constant come-forward style that puts her often in harm’s way, but allows her to maximize the damage she deals to her opponents.
Though not completely defensively sound, her high guard has been hard to penetrate when she puts an emphasis on it. She has one of the more dangerous jabs in the women’s division, regardless of weight class, and her work rate in the ring can justifiably be considered elite as she’s capable of unleashing unrelenting aggressiveness over a course of multiple rounds.
