Amanda Serrano Bout Set For First 12 Round/3-Minute Fight In History Of Women’s Boxing

Amanda Serrano Bout Set For First 12 Round 3-Minute Fight In History Of Women's Boxing featured image
Amanda Serrano (L) and Danila Ramos (R) will participate in the first ever 12x3 minute female boxing match on October 27th at the Caribe Royale Orlando in Florida.

Amanda Serrano and Danila Ramos are set to make history after it was revealed that the two female fighters would be engaging in the first-ever 12-round + 3-minute women’s boxing match. Up to this point, every title or major fight between two female competitors was limited to 10 rounds and 2 minutes per round. This, however, is set to change in the match between Serrano and Ramos who will both be engaging in this new format for the first time.

The October 27th featherweight title bout between Amanda Serrano (45-2-1, 30 KO’s) and Danila Ramos (12-2, 1 KO’s) is set to be a groundbreaking milestone for women’s boxing given there had never been any 12×3 minute fights when it came to female competitors. Though this has been customary for men when engaging in major fights or world title fights, both Serrano and Ramos have bravely dared to transcend the assumptive limits of female boxers.

The reasoning for the 10×2 minute format that female boxers were equipped to is multi-faceted. Concerns about a female boxer’s stamina, their physical differences compared to men, and historical traditions prevented this rule from adapting, but it is now apparent that a new age in boxing has arrived.

It is unknown what the consequences will be for women’s boxing after this match, but they will be heavily dependent on how the match between Serrano and Ramos goes. If the match proves to be highly entertaining, there is a good chance this new format might be applied to other female boxing matches of importance.

Amanda Serrano will still be defending all her four world titles on October 27th against Danila Ramos, with, of course, the challenge of fighting longer rounds and minutes tied into her title match.

This one is to show the world that anything a man can do, a woman can too,” Serrano said in a statement.

This one is to show we [are] equal. This one is for boxing. Championship Boxing. Orlando, Florida, I can’t wait to make history with you. Live on DAZN for the world to see.

Multi-media host Dan Canobbio also revealed that all the sanctioning bodies had signed on to this 12-round/3-minute format, except for allegedly the WBC.

History! Amanda Serrano vs. Danila Ramos will be 12×3 rounds on October 27th. First-ever women’s unified championship fight to use this format. Everyone but the WBC signed off on this.” Canobbio reported.

Additionally, there was an opportunity for Amanda Serrano to fight in the 12×3 minutes format in the past, but reportedly her then-slated opponent, Katie Taylor (22-1, 6 KO’s), refused, making Danila Ramos’ own choice to agree to this stipulation more significant.

This is giving back to my sport! Did it with the money by getting the first million-dollar purse. Katie turned me down on doing the 12×3 minutes but my mandatory is game.” Serrano revealed in a Twitter post.

This groundbreaking development has the potential to change the landscape, and there is a genuine chance that the winner of this matchup might quickly become acknowledged as one of the best female boxers of all time, provided their previous accomplishments are taken into account.

The Serrano-Ramos fight is currently set to take place at the Caribe Royale Orlando in Orlando, Florida, on October 27th.
