Jermell Charlo has managed to finally produce the aggressiveness that had been missing during his fight with Canelo Alvarez as reports have surfaced of him being arrested on December 16th for assaulting a family member.
Though little else is known but this case, it has been confirmed that Jermell Charlo was briefly placed into custody in his state of residence, Texas, for assaulting a family member to the point of causing bodily harm. The record of this arrest came from the Fort Bend County Sherriff’s Office
The incident appears to be minor as there does not seem to be a court case pending for the unified super welterweight champion. It has not yet been revealed who this family member was or what led to this situation.
What is particular about this case is that Charlo was booked for exactly the same reason a year ago in February whereupon he was released after on a $10,000 bail, during which he was also detained at Fort Bend.
Charlo had another felony case involving alleged robbery in 2021 but the case was later dismissed. This case was notoriously reported without full context, with the police’s involvement in this case painting a picture of Charlo appearing to have committed a crime. As it later turned out, a misunderstanding had occurred due to alleged intentional misinformation from the police which went unreported by most media outlets.
It is yet unknown if the same family member was assaulted in this case as in 2022. There did not seem to be any bail set for Charlo for his most recent arrest, suggesting that the alleged assault may have not been as severe or violent as speculated.
Neither Charlo, PBC, which represents him as his management, nor his promoter TGB Promotions, were available to be reached for any comments.
