UK-based promotions Matchroom and Queensberry have agreed to a five-versus-five fight card in Saudi Arabia, with the date and location of the event set to be announced some time during the Joshua-Ngannou fight week. The event will see fighters from both promotional outfits face each other to determine which promotion is the best stable between the two.

Eddie Hearn and Frank Warren, promoter of Matchroom and Queensberry respectively, have criticized each other for several years and the 5v5 that has been confirmed by the chairman of the General Entertainment Authority (GEA), Turki Al-Sheikh, will see the two promoters be able to put their monehh where their mouth is as five fighters of each stable will be handpicked by them to represent their promotions.

Turki Al-Sheikh had indicated interest in staging this sort of card during the press conference between Anthony Joshua and Francis Ngannou, and it appears both Hearn and Warren have quickly reacted to the chairman’s words to arrange this card.

In the overall scheme of things, it is yet unknown whether the fights on the card will feature top-rated fighters from various divisions or even world champions, though there may not be an issue on this front if any of the competing fighters haven’t been mandated by the sanctioning bodies to face a designated contender or champion.

Further making the card interesting is that aside from Eddie Hearn’s and Frank Warren’s own public spats over the years, both promotional outfits have battled against one another for decades since Hearn’s father and founder of Matchroom, Barry Hearn, had his company dabble in boxing in 1987 while Warren’s first boxing show took place in 1980.
