The fight between two of the most rambunctious and entertaining fighters in the sport between Adrien Broner and Blair Cobbs prepare themselves for a non-title welterweight contest on Friday, June 7th. The two will be headlining a show set to be jointly promoted by Don King Promotions and the Heavyweight Factory. The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, will serve as the venue for the event.
The upcoming 147 lbs bout between Adrien Broner (35-4-1, 24 KO’s) and Blair Cobbs (16-1-1, 10 KO’s) had been expected when the latter had signed to Don King Promotions earlier this year, and has now been scheduled to occur on June 7th.
With both Broner and Cobbs known for their loud and flashy personalities, the event has the potential to grab a decent the attention and of the masses―and is further marked for the expected competitive nature of the main event between the two welterweight contenders
Currently, Broner is the higher-rated fighter in this contest, occupying the #9 position on the WBA’s welterweight ranking boards, while Cobbs is nowhere to be found in the top 10 of any of the sanctioning bodies’ rankings; thereby giving Cobbs the opportunity to get back into play for a world title opportunity if he beats Broner.
The bout also marks the return for Cobbs to the ring since August of 2022 when he defeated fellow American Maurice Hooker (28-3-3, 19 KO’s) by unanimous decision (UD).
While Adrien Broner enjoys the greater reputation and experience―being a former multi-division world champion, there are still doubts as to his ability to compete at the top level. Age will not be a factor, as both fighters will enter the ring at the age of 34, but Cobbs enjoys both a reach [73 inches as opposed to Broner’s 69 inches] and a height advantage [5’11 feet as opposed to Broner’s 5’6 ½ feet] that is set to make things difficult for Broner.
Activity is on Broner’s side―having last coursed to a UD win over Bill Hutchinson (20-4, 9 KO’s) last year in June, but with rumors circulating of the former world champion having split with trainer Kevin Cunningham, there are further concerns as to whether he will be thoroughly prepared to face the bigger Cobbs.
Complementing the Broner-Cobbs fight card will be a serious competitive cruiserweight world title match between WBC champion Norair Mikaeljan (27-2, 12 KO’s)―also known as Noel Gevor Mikaeljan―and Canadian contender Ryan Rozicki (20-1, 19 KO’s). The match will be Mikaeljan’s first title defense since obtaining the WBC cruiserweight title last year.
In addition, another cruiserweight fight will be featured on the bout as Cuban former world champion Yuniel Dorticos will finally return to the ring after last fighting in December of 2022 against a yet-to-be-determined opponent.
In addition, the women’s super featherweight division will see two contenders go head-to-head as Greek southpaw Kalliopi Kourouni (17-3-1, 7 KO’s) and Argentinian former world champion Edith Soledad Matthysse (18-16-1, 1 KO’s) step into the ring.
