American 154 lbs prospect Vito Mielnicki Jr has become the second fighter affiliated with Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) to leave the company in the approximate span of two weeks, following in the footsteps of American prospect Jalil Hackett who left the PBC-aligned Mayweather Promotions to join with Matchroom. Mielnicki will be fighting under the Top Rank banner henceforth after reportedly signing with the promotion through a long-term contract.
Contrary to most fighters that were signed to or aligned with PBC, 22-year old Vito Mielnicki Jr (18-1, 12 KO’s) has been remarkably active since making his pro debut in 2019 and has built up a decent resume. The New Jersey-born fighter currently occupies the #4 spot on the World Boxing Association’s (WBA) super welterweight rankings, and he is further regarded as the #22 154 lbs contender according to the World Boxing council (WBC).
The move towards Top Rank by Mielnicki is further interesting given the promotion has few actual highly-rated fighters in the 154 lbs division and are therefore unable to immediately provide the prospect with career-defining fights. However, Top Rank’s existing relationship with the General Entertainment Authority (GEA), led by Turki Alalshikh, can potentially enable Mielnicki to challenge himself against the best in the division.
Another benefit to joining Top Rank lies in the promotion’s ability to develop prospects to reach their long-term potential, with the latest batch of prospects produced by Top Rank currently already considered contenders; i.e. Jared Anderson (17-0, 15 KO’s) and Keyshawn Davis (10-0, 7 KO’s). Given the promotional outfit’s proclivity in producing pound-for-pound fighters―including the likes of Floyd Mayweather Jr, Vasyl Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KO’s) and Terence Crawford (40-0, 31 KO’s), Mielnicki will be tapping into the resources of a promotion with a proven track record in helping prospects reach their potential in the long term.
According to Top Rank, Vito Mielnicki Jr is slated to soon make his debut on one of their cards this year, with the June 29th card―set to be headlined by Teofimo Lopez (20-1, 13 KO’s) and Steve Claggett (38-7-2, 26 KO’s)―counting as a possible date for Mielnicki to stage Top Rank debut.
