Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia voiced complaints last weekend on not being paid by the primary promotion of the April 20th card they headlined, Golden Boy Promotions, though this matter was quickly clarified by the promotion itself who claimed they had paid both fighters their guarantees.

The issue was first brought up by Ryan Garcia (25-1, 20 KO’s) who in a now-deleted Tweet stated that he had yet to be paid by Golden Boy Promotions and broadcaster DAZN.

Still no payment GBP and DAZN???Garcia stated on Twitter/X.

Despite the ongoing petition Devin Haney (31-1, 15 KO’s) launched with the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) to see his loss on April 20th overturned to a win, he agreed with Garcia on this matter.

Same…” the WBC super lightweight champion asserted.

In response to both fighter’s statements, Golden Boy Promotions reacted swiftly to curtail any notions of neglecting payment towards the two 140-pounders.

As we have always done with all our fighters, Golden Boy paid Ryan and Devin exactly what they are owed to their contracts,The promotion stated, referring to guaranteed payments that were stipulated in both fighters’ contracts, “As with all PPV (pay-per-view) events, revenue comes in over time and additional payments will be made when more money is received.

If they aren’t aware of this fact, we would hope that their managers are. Or perhaps Ryan and Devin should pay more attention to their contracts than their social media feeds.

The issue both Garcia and Haney were referring to, but went unmentioned by both, seems to revolve around the lack of PPV proceeds, which as Golden Boy stated is paid over a time as the PPV providers [in this case DAZN] would typically require 30 to 90 days to collect and tally the total of PPV sales. As the fight between the two occurred on April 20th, there would only be cause for concern if they were not paid after July 20th.

In addition, this process of counting the full number of sales also affects Golden Boy who as a promoter is reliant on the PPV provider―who distributes a portion of the PPV sales which is subsequently used to pay the fighters contracted to receive a percentage from the sales.

Golden Boy’s stance suggests they are well aware of the aforementioned factors, which as they stated could also be addressed by the fighters’ managers; who have yet to respond on this matter, suggesting there is no actual ongoing issue and that the process of calculating PPV sales is going as planned.
