Puerto Rican former IBF super lightweight champion Subriel Matias is ready to make his return following his upset loss to Liam Paro in June. With Matias no longer in possession of his IBF title, the Puerto Rican is attempting to climb back to the top and will be headlining on November 9th against Mexican contender Roberto Ramirez at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. The card is set to be promoted by the Puerto Rico-based Fresh Productions Boxing.

Subriel Matias (20-2, 20 KO’s) was soundly defeated through a unanimous decision on June 15th by Australian fighter Liam Paro (25-0, 15 KO’s), but the loss has not dampened the Puerto Rican’s spirits as he has already sought his next opponent to face in Roberto Ramirez (26-3-1, 19 KO’s).

The two will be facing each other in a 10-round super lightweight (140 lbs) match where Matias will widely be expected to grab an easy victory. Ramirez, 31, has no signficant fights whatsoever on his resume barring a bout against Mexican countryman and lightweight (135 lbs) contender William Zepeda (31-0, 27 KO’s) who knocked him out in the 5th round of their 2020 contest.

Unlike the 32-year old Matias who has fought and defeated ranked contenders―such as Argentinian contender Jeremias Nicolas Ponce (31-1, 21 KO’s) and Uzbek fighter Shohajon Ergashev (24-2, 21 KO’s)―has the better resume on paper by a milestone, heavily suggesting this fight against Ramirez is a “tune-up” fight meant to keep Matias active and sharp.

Notably complementing the card will be top-rated bantamweight (118 lbs) contenders in Puerto Rican veteran and former world champion Emmanuel Rodriguez Vazquez (22-3, 12 KO’s) and Mexican contender Jose Salas Reyes (15-0, 10 KO’s). Rodriguez is currently ranked in the top 10 with the WBC [#7] and IBF [#3], while the up-and-coming Reyes is firmly situated at #5 in the IBF’s bantamweight rankings.
