Amanda Serrano will be returning to the featherweight division after a two-year stint competing at super lightweight and attempting to challenge Irish undisputed champion Katie Taylor for her titles. Serrano is set to headline MVP’s first show of 2026 against Mexican fighter Erika Cruz on January 3.
Serrano (47-4-1, 31 KO’s), 37, has lost a total of three fights to Taylor with their last two fights held in 2024 and this year occurring at super lightweight (140 lbs). During that time, Serrano had held at least three titles at featherweight (126 lbs) but gradually lost two [WBA and IBF] due to not fighting in the division.
Due to the unique distinction of Serrano as a “WBO super champion”, she was allowed to hold on to her WBO title by the organization despite not having defended her title for two years.
With Amanda Serrano currently only bearing the WBO title, the Puerto Rican champion has seemingly to settle at 126 pounds with a headlining fight against former opponent Erika Cruz (18-2-1, 4 KO’s). The two had previously fought in 2023 in a unification bout that saw Serrano win Cruz’ WBA title following a unanimous decision (UD) to become undisputed at 126 lbs.
Complementing the event that will be promoted by Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), American WBA lightweight (135 lbs) champion Stephanie Han (11-0, 3 KO’s) will be defending her title against former UFC star Holly Holm (34-2-3, 9 KO’s).
Holly Holm returned to professional boxing earlier this year following a career of roughly 13 years in MMA. Holm recently defeated unbeaten Mexican fighter Yolanda Vega (10-2, 1 KO’s) in a dominating UD win on the Ramirez-Dorticos undercard, and that victory appears to have been regarded as a notable win by the WBA who will be sanctioning a world title bout between Holm and Han.
