Background

Anthony Yarde only had twelve amateur bouts – losing just once – under his belt before opting to turn pro in 2015. Yarde claimed to have stepped into the professional ranks early due to ‘too many fighters protecting their records’ [1].

Accomplishments

Anthony Yarde built his record with regular stoppage/knockout streaks against opposition that were relatively low-ranked compared to that of his peers. Nevertheless, Yarde was in amazing form each and every match and flew up the (mostly WBO) rankings with several mid-tier title wins and defenses.

In 2019, he faced WBO Light-Heavyweight world champion for his title. Though the fight was close and he acquit himself well against the multi-weight Russian champion, he was eventually stopped in the eleventh round and fell to his first career loss.

He returned in 2020 with two stoppage victories, and faced British prospect Lyndon Arthur at the tail-end of that year, but was narrowly beaten by split decision. The rematch he took with Arthur a year later – following a tune-up before that in the same year – was a success however; Yarde showed himself to be one of the division’s most dangerous punchers by knocking out Lyndon Arthur in the fourth round of their second bout.

He only fought once in 2022 in a match where he knocked out opponent Stefany Koykov. Yarde was then scheduled to face Artur Beterbiev on January 28 in 2023 for the Canadian-Russian’s WBC, WBO and IBF world Light-Heavyweight titles.

Yarde lost for the third time of his career when he faced the Russian-Canadian on January 28th after being stopped in the 8th round, but the British Light-Heavyweight showed a good account of himself throughout the bout, earning him hard-won respect and likely more opportunities in the near-future.

Later in 2023 on September 23rd, Yarde returned to the ring after a lengthy recuperation period where he dispatches his opponent, Portuguese fighter Jorge Silva, in the 2nd round of their match.

Anthony Yarde returned to the ring in February of 2024 where he scored a third-round TKO win over Serbian jouneyman Marko Nikolic.

Boxing Style

anthony yarde boxing style

Anthony Yarde employs a hybrid style where he switches fluently between counterattacking and pressuring opponents. He has shown on at least one occasion to struggle keeping up a high-intensity pace for too long, but at the same time he seems highly-effective fighting in that manner as evident by his high KO ratio of 95%.
