Background
While fighting as a Cruiserweight in the amateurs, Arsen Goulamirian didn’t win any senior competition of note but he was successful as a junior amateur, winning several national tournaments. He faced future Undisputed Cruiserweight and Unified Heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk as a senior in the amateurs, losing to him twice. He became a pro boxer in 2011 after a dispute with his country’s boxing federation. [1]
Accomplishments
Arsen Goulamirian found quick success in the Cruiserweight division, winning a title by his fifteenth fight (WBA Continental) in 2015, and in 2016 he won the French Boxing Federation’s France Cruiserweight title.
In 2018 he faced Ryad Merhy for the interim WBA World Cruiserweight title where he managed to stop his opponent in the eleventh round.
Following his interim world title win, Goulamirian was promoted to a Super champion in 2018 when then-champion Denis Lebedev retired [2], therefore officially making him a world champion for the first time. He subsequently defended his world title two times in 2019. After a lengthy break in 2020 and 2021, Arsen Goulamirian returned in November of 2022 against Alexey Egorov where he had a successful winning UD performance.
Boxing Style
Arsen Goulamirian is an excellent jabber that prefers to fight up close. Not only does his toughness and strength make him hard to shake off in the pocket, he is adept at minimizing damage through his defense, and is also capable of moving laterally at rapid speed, allowing him to evade hits swiftly or move in quickly to launch a surprise attack.
His most impressive quality seems to be mentally, as he’s quite effective at intimidating his opponents in the ring through his composure when blocking or taking punches, and his mentality to stay on the front foot and close in front of his opponent at all times. His style of boxing also suggests that he might great stamina, but as he hasn’t frequently been pushed to the latter rounds that has yet to be determined.
