Background

Arslanbek Makhmudov was most prevalent as a senior during his amateur career. He built up a fearsome reputation as a boxer whilst competing several times in the World Series of Boxing where he recorded an impressive number of eleven wins during the course of three years.

When he was a student at the Russian State University of Physical Education, Sport and Tourism he also found success, managing to win at least one European championship during his enrollment. Reportedly he had around 34 amateur fights as a senior, at least half that amount of fights when he was a junior. Makhmudov turned professional in 2017 after making his debut on December 7th.

Accomplishments

Arslanbek Makhmudov has managed to win every fight except one by either stoppage or knockout, similar to his Russian compatriot Artur Beterbiev. He won three international titles in a span of 5 years, though notably he didn’t face any opponent that truly tested his abilities. His best opponent thus far has been Mariusz Wach – a respected veteran of the heavyweight division –  who he stopped in the 6th round of their fight.

On July 1st of 2023, Arslanbek Makhmudov etched closer to becoming a viable contender when he defeated the then-unbeaten Raphael Akpejiori in the 2nd round of their bout.

Makhmudov returned to the ring in the same year against Junior Anthony Wright on October 28th where he tallied another KO win onto his record by stopping Wright in the first round of their match.

Arslanbek Makhmudov fought again on December 23rd where he faced German heavyweight contender Agit Kabayel. Makhmudov lost to Kabayel by TKO in just the 4th round after proving unable to deal with the body shots from Kabayel that were rapidly breaking him down and resulted in the Russian being knocked down thrice during his match.

Boxing Style

Arslanbek Makhmudov boxing style

Though Makhmudov stands out with his 100% KO ratio, he isn’t just a brawler or powerpuncher; he knows how to keep a tight guard and block or parry shots well, despite his lack of head/body movement. He’s well versed in tactics and very capable in luring in opponents for timed counters. While Arslanbek Makhmdov doesn’t employ a specific style, he has shown himself to be resilient, patient and obviously powerful, though he seems to be lacking somewhat in footwork and punching speed. His excellent reaction time often allows him to circumvent his supposed weaknesses and he has proven to be as good of a counterpuncher, as he is powerful.
