American welterweight and notorious showman Blair Cobbs has found a new home in Don King Productions―the Don King-headed promotional outfit―who will be promoting him for his next couple of fights. With this move, a future fight might be on the cards between Cobbs and former multi-division champion Adrien Broner, setting the stage for what may be one of the most exciting matches between two 147-pounders who aren’t necessarily considered top-rated contenders in the division.

Both Blair Cobbs (16-1-1, 10 KO’s) and Adrien Broner (35-4-1, 24 KO’s) fight in the same weight class at 147 lbs which sets up an ideal scenario for the two to meet in the ring. Throughout his career, Broner has been known for his boisterous personality and slew of controversies, which perfectly matches him with the extravagant Blair Cobbs who is decently-known for his loud and showmanship behavior.

With one of boxing’s oldest and boldest promoters in Don King heading the company both fighters are now signed to, substantial interest can see both prizefighters profit substantially depending on their efforts to promote a potential fight between them. With both fighters considered fringe contenders on the cusp of becoming genuine world title challengers, the anticipated kick-off between Broner and Cobbs further make sense as the winner will potentially enter into the various top 10 rankings of the division to reach closer towards title contention.

While Broner, 34, is currently ranked #8 by the WBA and #12 by the WBC on their welterweight rankings, the fighter has yet to be considered a serious contender; which presents a fitting the opportunity for the likewise 34-year old Cobbs to get back into a title position following a knockout loss to another welterweight contender in Alexis Rocha (23-2, 15 KO’s) in March of 2022. This is especially the case since Cobbs is currently not ranked in the top 10 of any of the four main sanctioning bodies’ ranking boards.

During an interview with Don King Productions, Cobbs expressed his excitement at being able to get in the ring again.

I’m ready to return to action,Cobbs stated.  “And what better way to further my career than to be with the best promoter in the game, Don King.

I’m also tired of listening to all the talk out of Adrien Broner.  Broner’s talk is cheap.  Broner seems to be more comfortable fighting on social media than he is in the ring.  There’s no reason not to get in the ring together and I’ll  show him who is the boss.

I’m looking for bigger and more exciting fights.  I’m going to make boxing great again.  Real fighters and real boxing.  Me and Broner will be the comeback of real boxing.  Entertainment at its best.  Whooo!

With Blair Cobbs not having fought since August 6th in 2022 when he defeated Maurice Hooker (27-3-3, 18 KO’s) by unanimous decision (UD) over ten rounds, his callout to Adrien Broner may yet be answered soon with Broner likely itching for a fight following the cancellation of a planned bout last December.

Broner’s last fight took place last year in June and saw him come back to the ring after an absence of more than a year. Broner defeated active attorney Bill Hutchinson (20-3-4, 9 KO’s) by UD to signal his return to boxing, and his intent to reclaim his position as “top dog”.
