Multi-division world champion, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez has already started looking past his scheduled opponent, John Ryder, as he sets his sights on facing Dmitry Bivol – who handed him his second career loss – in the near future. Canelo Alvarez revealed his intention was to seek a match with Bivol, which could potentially take place at the 175 lbs where Alvarez had fought in earlier and also happens to be Bivol’s natural and current weight class.

With Canelo Alvarez (58-2-2, 39 KO’s) still eager to avenge his loss to Dmitry Bivol (21-0, 11 KO’s) that occurred last year on the 7th of May during ‘Cinco de Mayo‘ weekend, the Mexican undisputed Super Middleweight champion has not held back in establishing what his objectives were for the year in his most recent interview with Fight Hub TV.

The rematch with Bivol is my goal.” Canelo said confidently. “We need to pass this fight first and then start talking about the fight with Bivol.

Despite looking ahead of the schedule while he has an upcoming fight with John Ryder (32-5, 18 KO’s), Alvarez did not wave away the possibility of Ryder causing an upset, despite the Brit being regarded as somewhat of an ‘easy’ opponent.

Everybody said the same thing when I fought Bivol. You never know in boxing.” Canelo remarked coolly. “It’s supposed to be that way, but we never know. I’m (still) going to train a hundred percent.”

Alvarez seemed to have no qualms about moving up to Light-Heavyweight to face Dmitry Bivol again, but maintained that the weight at which they would fight at would depend on the terms of Bivol’s steam. With Dmitry Bivol having not displayed any objections to fighting at 168 lbs, there’s a good possibility of Saul Alvarez facing Bivol in an undisputed contest for all the titles if he makes it past John Ryder.

In the meantime, Dmitry Bivol himself will be looking for his next opponent after potential negotiations with Artur Beterbiev (19-0, 19 KO’s) fell through after the WBC ordered the Russian-Canadian to fight British contender Callum Smith (29-1, 21 KO’s) next.

British fighter Joshua Buatsi (16-0, 13 KO’s), who recently split ways from Matchroom, who’s affiliated with DAZN, to join Boxxer and Sky Sports is the #1 contender for Bivol, but negotiations might get somewhat tense as Buatsi’s former employer had previously already offered the Bivol fight to Buatsi before he eventually left.

Another option Bivol might face in the upcoming months is the #2 ranked contender, another Brit in Dan Azeez (19-0, 13 KO’s) who is steadily proving himself to be a worthy potential contender for either of the two champions in the division, and like Buatsi is signed to Boxxer/Sky Sports.
