Accomplishments

Turning professional in 2012, Martin had a budding career, despite collecting a draw early by his sixth match. By 2014, Martin had won his first title in the WBONABO Heavyweight title.

His world title opportunity came in 2016 when he won the IBF world heavyweight title by stopping opponent Vyacheslav Glazkov in just the third round of the fight.

The next match Martin faced challenger Antony Joshua as the underdog due to Anthony Joshua’s enhanced reputation as a gold medalist and his then-recent victory over fellow British prospect Dillian Whyte. Martin failed to overcome his pre-match expectations as an underdog, falling to defeat in just the second round of the bout and losing his world title thereafter.

After two tune-up fights, Martin faced rising contender Adam Kownacki in 2018 but he again fell to defeat by unanimous decision in ten rounds.

Martin soon came back on the trail of the top Heavyweights, defeating his next two opponents before taking on former WBC World Heavyweight challenger Gerald Washington and winning by TKO.

Following a hiatus of nearly two years, Martin returned to the ring in 2022 to fight former heavyweight world title challenger Luis Ortiz. Despite finding some success during the fight, Martin was unable to prevent a stoppage loss when Ortiz caught him in the 6th round with too many vital blows to both the body and the head.

8 months later, Martin returned in September of 2022 and featured in an easy KO victory in the 4th round over Devin Vargas.

Charles Martin continued his boxing career in 2023, serving as a late replacement against Jared Anderson on the 1st of July. He lost the match by unanimous decision, putting up a defiant performance despite having had less training given his status as a late substitute.

Boxing Style

Charles Martin has a well-rounded style and a dangerous right hand that has led to many victories his high KO ratio of almost 90%. He is more than just a powerful puncher however, Martin can fight at range of his opponent where he can box his opponents, but he can also release a flurry of combinations when the situation demands it. He’s quick mover with his feet, but can be overwhelmed inside the pocket as evident by his battles against Anthony JoshuaAdam Kownacki and Luis Ortiz. Martin also fights in the Southpaw stance.
