Background
The son of British boxing legend Nigel Benn, Conor Benn’s amateur career was relatively unnoticeable and obscure as he competed shortly in Australia as an amateur before turning professional in 2016.
Accomplishments
Conor Benn started in the 147 pounds weight class, quickly making his mark by his string of energetic undefeated victories where he often finished his opponents.
By his fifteenth fight – roughly 2 years after making his debut – he won his first (mid-tier) title , winning the WBA Continental Welterweight title through a decision victory.
He went on to have a four-year unbeaten run with his WBA title, confidently managing to thoroughly defeat several renowned veterans such as Chris Algieri, Chris van Heerden and Samuel Vargas.
Following a period out of the ring due to alleged steroid use, Conor Benn returned to the ring in September of 2023 in America to score a unanimous decision win over Mexican welterweight contender Rodolfo Orozco. He fought again in February of 2024 where he scored another decisive UD victory over American opponent Peter Dobson.
Boxing Style
Conor Benn employs an energetic and pressure style of fighting where he often sets the pace early and fiercely, thus earning his nickname ‘The Destroyer’. He is resilient, fast and seems to have a high amount of stamina, but he’s relatively inexperienced or underdeveloped in certain areas, most prominently his fighting on the back foot, defensve fundamentals and a degree of ring IQ. Despite this, he clearly seems to have the strength, the willpower and the talent to further improve, and take his skills to the next nevel.
