Devin Haney was arrested on Thursday in Los Angeles for possessing a concealed fire arm, according to reports from the LAPD. The police were conducting traffic stops in an area that Haney and his entourage of armed security passed through and Haney’s vehicle therefore had to be subject of a mandatory search.
A concealed weapon was found in the vehicle while the police conducted their search. Devin Haney (30-0, 15 KO’s) was arrested shortly after on a felony charge for having a concealed weapon. The undisputed lightweight champion was allegedly in the back seat of the car when the search was conducted.
Devin Haney’s father, Devin Haney Sr., described the situation to ESPN as a “misunderstanding” and vowed that the case would be “solved when Devin Haney goes to court”. Haney Sr. also referred to the presence of armed licensed security in the vehicle, but offered no further vital details surrounding the arrest and where/how the police found the weapon. The 24-year old American boxer was later released after a $35.000 bond.
The police didn’t indicate whether the weapon was actually on Haney at the time of the search, or in the car itself. It is also unclear who the weapon actually belongs to.
