British heavyweight contender Dillian Whyte is returning to action next month on Sunday, December 15 against Ghanaian contender Ebenezer Tetteh. The two will be headlining on a card promoted by the unheralded Platform Sport in Gibraltar at the Europa Point Sports Complex venue. The event will further be broadcasted on DAZN.
The upcoming fight marks the second time Dillian Whyte (30-3, 20 KO’s) will enter the ring this year following a failed drug test that he was supposedly cleared for. Whyte’s last fight occurred against Christian Hammer (27-12, 17 KO’s) in Ireland amidst St. Patrick’s Day on March 17th. Whyte would win the match by stoppage in the 3rd round of the 10-round bout.
Ebenezer Tetteh (23-1, 20 KO’s), a heavyweight (200+ lbs) unranked contender, is best-known for his 2019 bout against Daniel Dubois (22-2, 21 KO’s) where he suffered a quick and decisive technical knockout (TKO) loss to the British heavyweight in just 3 rounds.
Like Hammer before him, Tetteh is not considered a fringe contender at best though the Ghanaian contender has gone on a knockout (KO)/stoppage streak since his loss to Dubois, making him a step better as viable opponent.
However, the choice of Tetteh also suggests Dillian Whyte has had difficulties in landing a crucial career-defining fight since he tested positive for an unknown substance in 2023 prior to a scheduled bout with British former unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (28-4, 25 KO’s).
Whyte, 36, has challenged for a heavyweight world title on one occassion and was considered a genuine heavyweight contender for several years, recording key victories over prominent heavyweights such as Joseph Parker (35-3, 23 KO’s), Derek Chisora (35-13, 23 KO’s) and Alexander Povetkin.
