Erick Rosa And Knockout CP Freshmart Purse Bids Cancelled As Both Reach An Agreement

Erick Rosa and Knockout CP Freshmart Purse Bids Cancelled As Both Reach An Agreement featured image
With the teams of Thammanoon Niyomtrong and Erick Rosa coming to an agreement, the WBA has ordered both fighters' teams to send over their signed contracts including the date and venue by April 3rd.

The World Boxing Association’s (WBA) ordered purse bids between WBA ‘Super’ champion Thammanoon Niyomtrong (Knockout CP Freshmart) and WBA ‘Regular’ champion Erick Rosa have been cancelled with both fighter’s representatives claiming that the two have reached an agreement to fight each other, thus making the purse bidding event obsolete.

The purse bids was originally scheduled for today, March 28th, and ordered by the WBA after a previously scheduled – and mandated – match between the two fighters was cancelled. With the WBA intent to unify all the ‘Super’ and ‘Regular’ titles as a part of their ‘World Title Reduction Plan’ which had been kickstarted as of 2016, Thai world champion Thammanoon Niyomtrong (24-0, 9 KO’s) – also known as Knockout CP Freshmart – and Dominican (Republican) Erick Rosa (5-0, 1 KO’s), who held the ‘Super’ and ‘Regular’ titles respectively, were ordered to face each other as of September of 2022.

The unification bout (between the two WBA champions) that was slated for March 1st was unfortunately canceled due to circumstances that the WBA attributed to both fighters’ teams. The incident saw Rosa unable to fight as he was detained due Niyomtrong’s team failing to properly arrange his travel documents to enable him to fight in Thailand – which had been chosen as the destination to hold the WBA unification bout in.

Because of the circumstances surrounding Erick Rosa’s detainment – who would later be released, the fight had to be rescheduled. Intent to resolve the situation, the WBA ordered the fight to go to purse bids again under the condition that no promotion that hailed from these fighter’s countries were allowed to participate.

Now, it seems that the teams of both fighters have found common ground, the WBA has set a deadline for the teams to deliver signed contracts for a venue and date by April 3rd. It is therefore expected that a fight announcement will be announced in due course, likely as early as next week.
