Floyd Mayweather Jr has announced a rematch of his 2023 exhibition with John Gotti III’ a bout that has become notorious for the brawl that followed rather than the actual fight itself. Their 2023 bout had previously been ruled as a no-contest by presiding referee Kenny Bayless after the two engaged in endless taunting that prevented an actual fight from occurring. The two fighters will reportedly headline a card that will be based at the CDX Arena in Mexico City, Mexico, on August 24th.

Floyd Mayweather revealed the news of his next fight through a post on Instagram which was accompanied by a poster featuring him and John Gotti III.

#UnfinishedBusiness August 24th Mayweather Vs. Gotti 3 Rematch in Mexico City,Mayweather posted on Instagram. “This is something you don’t want to miss!!

Floyd Mayweather had previously been expected to engage in an exhibition bout against Victor Ortiz―who he had previously faced during his professional career―in Mexico, but the “50-0” fighter failed to make an appearance for the launch press conference of that fight.

John Gotti III will instead be Mayweather’s opponent, likely due to the financial benefits such an exhibition will bring given Mayweather’s fight with Gotti was more recent and bred a significant amount of controversy that could generate more attention towards their rematch.

The set location in Mexico suggests that there likely had been an original agreement for Mayweather and Ortiz to fight―as they were also planning to fight in Mexico, but this agreement appears to have been altered to feature Gotti as an opponent instead.

Interestingly, DAZN appears to be broadcasting the fight live on their platform. Mayweather last fought under DAZN when he faced social media influencer Deji Olatunji in a 2022 exhibition held in Dubai. Like many of Mayweather’s exhibitions, his last fight with Gotti III was broadcasted by the subscription-based platform of Zeus Network.
