WBA lightweight (135 lbs) world champion Gervonta Davis is being sued for domestic violence and abuse for the umpteenth time after a civil lawsuit was filed by former girlfriend, Courtney Russell.

According to public documents pertaining to the lawsuit, Russell is seeking damages for an incident that occurred on October 27th where Davis entered her place of employment, strip club Tootsies in Miami, and reportedly physically assaulted her during work before dragging her to a nearby parking garage to continue his assault.

Davis, 30, was set to compete on November 14 in an exhibition against cruiserweight (200 lbs) fighter Jake Paul bout but the fight has been cancelled following the allegations against Davis. The event was set to be held at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida. Coincidentally, Davis’ domestic violence incident occurred within the same city of Miami.

Promoter of the fight, founded Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), did not specifically allude to the allegations being the cause for the cancellation but Paul, co-founder of MVP, has expressed his disappointment at Davis’ lack of professionalism.

According to MVP CEO Nakisa Bidarian, the event and the fights on the undercard will still be booked for November 14 as a replacement for Gervonta Davis is sought:

Our team has worked closely with all parties to navigate this situation responsibly,” said Nakisa Bidarian

While we will not be moving forward with this event, our plan still remains for Jake Paul to headline an event on Netflix in 2025.

Details regarding a new date, location, Jake’s opponent, and additional bouts will be shared as soon as they are finalized. We thank Netflix, the Kaseya Center, and the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino for their partnership.

A replacement opponent is now being eyed though it is still unknown if this entails that a potential bout between Paul and his opponent-to-be will now classify as an exhibition or professional bout.
