Gervonta Davis’ previous sentence of 90 days of house arrest will likely result in him serving the remainder of the sentence in jail after being taken into custody on Thursday afternoon. According to the Baltimore Sun, the young American champion is currently incarcerated in the Central Booking jail in Baltimore, where he is expected to remain until his original sentence is completed.

The reason for Gervonta Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) being taken was because he moved to two different locations other than his designated location of his coach’s home. This resulted in an impromptu hearing that caused the judge to revert his house arrest sentence to a jail sentence. Last month, the Baltimore-born boxer was sentenced to 90 days of house arrest for a hit-and-run accident stemming back from November 2020.

Although the Florida resident could have been sent to jail during initial sentencing, he was placed under house arrest at his coach’s home in Baltimore instead. The house arrest sentence now proves to be futile, however, with the news of Davis’ latest arrest.

The American boxer sentence of house arrest prohibited him from leaving the household of his coach Calvin Ford without permission of the judge. The GPS monitoring company that kept watch over his location had reported him leaving to the Four Seasons Hotel on one occasion, and luxury hotel on another which prompted the presiding judge over Davis’ case to take matters into her own hands.

The news comes as a disappointment since Gervonta Davis had been fortunate to receive a sentence of house arrest instead of jail time, but he will now be spending his time amongst other inmates due to the mysterious circumstances that resulted in his departure from his coach’s home and his placement in police custody.

Gervonta Davis’ last match saw him win by knockout against highly-popular and fellow American Ryan Garcia (23-1, 19 KO’s) all while retaining his unbeaten record. A further downside of Davis being taken into custody is that he won’t be able to enjoy the same health and exercise benefits as he had when forced to stay at his coach’s home.

This will likely reduce the possibility of Gervonta Davis facing other top Lightweights who are not confined by the limitations of prison or jail, even if they are currently inactive, once his sentence is completed. Meanwhile, the young boxer will have the opportunity to reflect on his decisions from the past years and possibly make a fresh start, keeping a prison or jail sentence far from his mind as he moves forward.
