Gervonta Davis To Be Sentenced Today

The widely-regarded new ‘face’ of (US) boxing, Baltimore-born superstar Gervonta Davis, may spend sometime away from boxing this year following his guilty plea to a hit-and-run incident that left four people injured. The American Lightweight pled guilty to the charge earlier this year in February, but was scheduled for sentencing on May 5th which is today.

The gravity of the charges and his own admittance of guilt does not necessarily mean that Gervonta Davis (29-0, 27 KO’s) will be jailed, but he may be subject to house arrest for an extended period of time that can last for months. The one factor that may help Davis avoid spending time in jail or prison is the fact that no one died as a result of the accident he had with his car; which otherwise would likely see him spend time in jail for up to a year in jail or even longer.

The judge presiding over his case had previously rejected a plea deal that would see Gervonta Davis’ license suspended for a year while forced to remain in house arrest for two months, yet that is exactly what can still occur when Davis is sentenced on this day.

The WBA ‘Regular’ champion’s boxing license may also be affected depending on his sentence, but the sentence heavily depends on him sitting in jail for that possibility to materialize. In the worst-case scenario, ‘Tank’ as he is also called, will be absent from the sport for roughly at a year. In the best- case scenario, Tank might be able to return to the ring this year if he is slammed with house arrest and keeps himself in appropriate shape.
