The December 14 Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) card that was set to be headlined by WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis and WBA super featherweight champion Lamont Roach Jr. has been moved to March 1, 2025, after weeks of speculation. The Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, has been confirmed to be the new venue where the two WBA champions will go head-to-head.
Following the announcement of the December 14 card, reports had already indicated the card would be postponed roughly two months prior due to venue issues; a notion further supported by the lack of any press conference to officially herald the card that would feature WBA lightweight (135 lbs) champion Gervonta Davis (30-0, 28 KO’s) and WBA super featherweight (130 lbs) Lamont Roach Jr. (25-1-1, 10 KO’s) in the main event.
Characterizing the fight is the continued collaboration between the PBC―through TGB Promotions―and the WBA which will see Davis and Roach compete in what can best be styled as an “in-house fight”. Roach further marks the second WBA 130-pound champion he’ll face in roughly two years since defeating former WBA super featherweight champion Hector Garcia (16-2, 10 KO’s) in a 135 lbs contest last year in January.
Davis, who recently turned 30 in November, will be defending his WBA 135-pound title against Roach who has been granted an exemption by the WBA to challenge Davis in a weight class above his own. The competitiveness of the bout is notably under question, with Roach’s ability questionable in comparison to actual lightweight contenders and champions that Davis could have faced.
Roach’s resume further appears to suggest there will be no upset, with his biggest names limited to former world champion Jamel Herring (24-5, 12 KO’s)―to whom he handily lost in 2019―and Hector Garcia who was coming off his 2023 defeat to Gervonta Davis and had been inactive for approximately 10 months.
As of this past weekend, PBC confirmed the new date of March 1 in their official schedule, in addition to the new venue of the Barclays Center which will replace the previously-scheduled Toyota Arena [in Houston, Texas] where the fight had been scheduled to take place.
The accompanying fights on the undercard are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
