On their social media platforms, Gervonta Davis (27-0, 25 KO’s) and Ryan Garcia (23-0, 19 KO’s) have both acknowledged and confirmed that they will fight each other on the 15th of April in Las Vegas, in 2023. Premier Boxing Champions, Davis’ promoter, have also confirmed the match-up on their website and social media channels.
After our previous article where we criticized the main parties involved with creating the fight, it seems both of the fighters’ promoters and management teams have done their utmost to make sure the fight could happen. This of course, is a good thing for boxing, as Davis and Garcia have long been seen as the best young talents of their weight classes, and a fight between the two has been tipped almost as soon as they turned professional.
Gervonta Davis will first have to deal with Hector Luis Garcia (16-0, 10 KO’s), the Super Featherweight WBA champion who has decided to challenge himself a division up by challenging Davis for his WBA (Regular) Lightweight title. They are set to fight on January 7th in 2023. With Ryan Garcia not having fought since July this year, it is likely he will also be matched with an opponent to keep himself fresh and fit for the Davis fight.
