Background

While Jermaine Franklin didn’t have as many fights as some of his peers, he still gathered the experience, and developed the skillset needed, to become a solid professional. Notably, he competed in the National Golden Gloves competition several times, and managed to make it to the final of the tournament in 2013. In 2014 he won the tournament altogether. Around a year later – in 2015 – he turned professional.

Accomplishments

Jermaine Franklin showed himself to be a decent Heavyweight prospect. With a KO ratio of 66% against increasingly better competition, Franklin showed he might belong to the top list of Heavyweights, but seemed to miss out on more challenging opponents to help him improve and/or build his name up to the masses.

He built up some relative buzz when in 2019 – while still undefeated – Franklin dispatched Heavyweight veterans Rydell Booker and Jerry Forrest in consecutive hard-won bouts. After one more fight in 2019, Jermaine Franklin entered an involuntary hiatus from the sport due to domestic issues, which kept him out of the sport for approximately two and a half years before he returned to the ring in 2022.

After confidently stopping his opponent, Franklin was scheduled to face British superstar Dillian Whyte on November 26. Though he lost in the subsequent bout, the loss (by majority decision) was narrow and he proved his talent, enabling him to potentially gain similar – or bigger – opportunities sometime in the future.

That opportunity arrived on April 1st in 2023 when he got to face former unified Heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. Franklin put up a good showing against Joshua like he did with Whyte, but the American fighter could not overcome the prematch odds that had him losing and he fell to a unanimus decision defeat to the British fighter.

Boxing Style

Jermaine Franklin tends to want to push the tempo, and can often be found fighting on the front foot. He often utilizes his jab to set up his right hand – which in itself is powerful and quick. Though he can be a slow starter, Franklin has proved to be effective later on which is a testament to his stamina, patience and determination as a fighter.
