Background

Fighting mostly as a Heavyweight (Super Heavyweight in the amateurs) in the unpaid ranks of boxing, Kamshybek Kunkabayev became one of Kazakhstan’s most prolific amateur boxers in time. Kunkabayev’s career was filled with mostly silver medals he won by reaching the finals of various competitions.

Kunkabayev took part in the 2020 Olympics where he won bronze after failing to make it to the final when he lost in the semi-final. He also won Silver at the Asian Championships three times in a row as it’s held every two years, and won Silver twice at the AIBA World Championships.

His career was also marked by several gold medals when he won the national  President’s Cup and Kazakh National Championships in 2018. A year before that he also impressed in the 2017 Chemistry Cup tournament which he eventually won. He became a pro in 2020, shortly after the Olympics.

Accomplishments

Kamshybek Kunkabayev debuted as a Cruiserweight in 2020 and has so far only had three matches. In his third match he won the WBO Asia Pacific Cruiserweight title, becoming one of the quickest international/continental champions.
