Accomplishments

Kubrat Pulev is one of the most recognizable veterans in the Heavyweight division, having had several world title fights with renowned opponents. He won his first title – the IBF International heavyweight title – in 2011, and his second – the European Heavyweight title – a year later in 2012.

On November 15, 2012, he faced Wladimir Klitschko for the ibf World Heavyweight and The Ring Lineal Heavyweight titles, unfortunately falling to defeat by KO in the fifth round.

He rallied back to the top with important wins against Derek Chisora, Hughie Fury and Bogdan Dinu and eventually earned himself a mandatory position for Anthony Joshua’s world Heavyweight titles.

The date for his fight against Anthony Joshua was set on December the 12th in 2020. While showing heart, Pulev met his defeat by way of knockout in the eight round.

After a hiatus of nearly two years, Kubrat Pulev returned to the ring in 2022 where he got his rounds in in a successful UD victory over American Jerry Forrest. A mere two months later, Pulev fought Derek Chisora for the second time of his career, but fell to a close split-decision loss to the Brit.

The ever-persistent Pulev returned in December of 2023 where he scored a dominant unanimous decision win over Andrzej Wawrzyk to reaffirm his position as a dangerous heavyweight despite his 42 years of age at the time.

Boxing Style

kubrat pulev boxing style

Pulev is a boxer that mostly relies on his power to take out opponents. While he has shown a decent amount of skills, his style relies on loaded-up punches – especially his overhand right – that are most effective when they land clean. He has further shown to have a solid chin and unbending determination, being able to take a lot of damage while still being able to challenge his opponent, such as with his fights against Derek Chisora and Anthony Joshua.
