Background

Lucas Browne is a rarity in boxing as he didn’t have an amateur boxing career and started boxing late in his twenties[1]. He also took part in the MMA scene, fighting eight times between 2009 and 2010, before fully settling as a boxing professional.

He faced UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier during his stint as a MMA fighter in 2010. Coincidentally, he fought Cormier in the last day of the month of July, 30 days after his second pro boxing bout that was held on the 1st of July in 2010.

Accomplishments

Lucas Browne made his pro boxing debut on the 20th of March in 2009, and after several MMA fights that spanned over a year from 2009 to 2010, he fully focused on the sport of boxing.

Browne turned out to be somewhat of a prodigy considering his lack of amateur experience and late start, going unbeaten for nine years before losing by knockout against Dillian Whyte in a valiant effort. He marked his career with many mid-tier titles, and even conquered the regular version of the WBA world title against Ruslan Chagaev in 2016.

His latest victory saw him net a  surprising win against New Zealander prospect Junior Fa in 2022, knocking him out in just the first round of their fight.

Boxing Style

lucas browne boxing style

Lucas Browne has made a name of himself through his power – prominently manifested through his right hand – and his toughness that allowed him to overcome the lack of amateur experience. Though not as fundamentally-sound as many of his peers, Browne’s skillset cannot be underestimated as he has edged out fights against more skilled opponents through grit and will.

He is prone to getting up close and unleashing as many hooks as he’s capable of. He also possesses a good jab that allows him to close in on his opponents quicker.
