Background

Mike Perez was a decent amateur, managing to stack up over 400 fights during his career. He fought several opponents that would be top-tier fightes within professional boxing, such as Luis Ortiz, Yuniel Dorticos and Constantin Bejenaru. The highlight of his career as an amateur was winning the 2004 World Junior Championships, and he also managed to reach the final stages of domestic and international tournaments on a regular basis.

Accomplishments

Mike Perez joined the professional ranks of boxing in 2008, initially fighting as a Heavyweight until 2015 when he moved down to Cruiserweight following a shocking first-round loss to Heavyweight veteran Alexander Povetkin. He also suffered a loss against Bryant Jennings a year before.

His debut as a Cruiserweight was extremely successful when he knocked out Slovakian opponent Viktor Biscak in the first round. Mike Perez’ next match however proved to become his third loss when he faced Mairis Briedis, losing the bout by unanimous decision in a match for Briedis’ WBC world title. He has since then, gone on a four-match winning run.

Mike Perez was able to win three mid-tier titles throughout his career, and challenged for a world title once againt Mairis Briedis. He was also the (Heavyweight) winner of the Prizefighter series, created by promoter Barry Hearn.
