Accomplishments

Murat Gassiev diligently dispatched every opponent he could to rise to the top of the rankings. Intermixing stoppage wins with decision victories, Gassiev proved his worth when he beat Krzysztof Włodarczyk in 2017 while competing in the World Boxing Super Series (also known as the WBSS), winning his first world title – IBF Cruiserweight – in the process.

He repeated that feat in the next match in the same competition, beating Yuniel Dorticos by a last-round stoppage victory to win the WBA world title in 2018.

His budding career as a world champion was interrupted when in the summer of 2018 he faced Oleksandr Usyk in the final of the WBSS. He lost by unanimous decision in the undisputed fight, granting Usyk the historical accolades that came with becoming undisputed while Gassiev lost all his well-earned titles.

At the moment he is slowly getting back on top, having sealed three stoppage victories in a row from 2020 to 2022, fighting only once each year.

Murat Gassiev fights from the orthodox stance. He is tough and resilient, as he’s proved numerous times throughout his professional career. Though he tends to rely too much on his power shots and his toughness at times, he is well-rounded with his skillset.
