Ryan Garcia will be allowed to be reinstated in the WBC’s rankings after being imposed a suspension by the sanctioning body for spouting bigotry and racism on social media. The suspension prevented Garcia from being ranked with the organization and fight for their titles.

The suspension was lifted yesterday [November 4] and featured a statement by WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman who appeared enthused to welcome Garcia (24-2, 20 KO’s) back into the fold:

The WBC Board of Governors has voted in favor of lifting the suspension on Ryan Garcia after his successful and documented process, said Sulaiman.

The WBC has been very close to Ryan, his family, his management team, and promoter, and we are confident that he will start a new life inside and outside the ring. We welcome you with open arms and trust that you will be an ambassador for the new generation.

Garcia’s bigoted rant included the fighter admitting to being a part of the Ku Klux Klan, being anti-black and flinging accusations against Muslims for being pedophiles due to their faith. Notably, the WBC’s recent press release neglected to mention the reason for the suspension.

Despite the WBC’s suspension, Ryan Garcia had not been barred from other organizations and was allowed to compete against current WBA welterweight (147 lbs) champion Rolando “Rolly” Romero (17-2, 13 KO’s) on May 2nd for the WBA “regular” 147-pound title. Romero claimed the “regular” title after winning the bout by unanimous decision (UD) and was later elevated to legitimate world champion.

The WBC’s decision coincides with recent rumors of a potential fight between Ryan Garcia and WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios (29-2-2, 18 KO’s) in the first quarter of 2026, giving the organization the opportunity to officially sanction a title fight.
