Background

Savannah Marshall was a decorated amateur that won a multitude of medals – including gold – and trophies due to her performances. She fought in prestigious competitions like the Commonwealth Games and the 2016 Olympics, the former in which she managed to win, and the latter in which she managed to reach the quarter-finals before eventually losing.

Marshall recorded a record of 61-16 in the amateurs over the course of beating prospects who would go on to have success in the professional ranks of boxing, including Claressa Shields, Elin Cederroos and Edith Ogoke.

Accomplishments

Savannah Marshall debuted on August 26th in 2017 as a Super Middleweight, quickly rising up the ranks due to her regularly finishing her opponents. She won her first title (WBA Inter-Continental) in her fourth match, a year after her debut.

In 2022 – in just her ninth fight – she captured the WBO title in the Middleweight division, stopping the renowned female competitor Hannah Rankin in the 7th round.

Marshall continued her run, defending her title thrice against high-ranked opponents, helping set up a blockbuster match with multi-weight world champion Claressa Shields on October 15 in 2022.

Despite Savannah Marshall’s valiant and tireless efforts, she ended up losing in her bout with Claressa Shields by unanimous decision, losing her WBO title in the process and culminating in Shields becoming a third-time undisputed champion.

On July 1st of 2023, Savannah Marshall became an undisputed champion herself after defeating the then-reigning undisputed champion Franchon Crews-Dezun by majority decision.

Boxing Style

Both skilled and strong, Savannah Marshall’s stint in the professional ranks has proved very successful so far. Though she is one of the more powerful boxers in the women’s division, Marshall has accumulated a well-rounded skillset during her time as an amateur. Her preference is boxing on the outside, which is beneficial to her considering her reach and punching speed.
