Background

Skye Nicolson is one of Australia’s finest amateur boxers. Nicolson netted a record of 107-32 while competing as both a junior and senior. During her tenure as an amateur, Nicolson became a three-time national champion while also netting silver and bronze in other years.

Internationally, Nicolson competed as part of the Australian amateur boxing team where she went on to represent her country fairly well; in 2018 she won the Commonwealth Games. Skye also won  bronze at renowned competitions including the AIBA World Championships in 2016, all while continuing to dominate nationally and regionally.

After failing to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics (in 2021), Nicolson turned her eyes towards becoming a professional boxer and made her official debut in March of 2022.

Accomplishments

Making her debut in 2022 as a featherweight (126 lbs), Skye Nicolson immediately impressed with a string of several dominant victories over her opponents in just the span of a single year. In her fifth fight she beat fellow Australian Krystina Jacobs to win the Commonwealth Featherweight title.

She was rewarded early in 2023 with the ‘Female Revelation of the Year’ award by the WBA for her performances and activity in 2022.

Nicolson then faced Spanish prospect Tania Alvarez for the WBC Silver title and successfully won by unanimous decision (UD) in her match with Alvarez (in February of 2023) to net the second title of her career.

She returned quickly to the ring in April of 2023 where she scored an easy points victory over her opponent, Linda Laura Lecca.

Skye Nicolson would eventually win the WBC interim title in 2023 before fighting for the actual WBC featherweight title in 2024 against former world champion Sarah Mahfoud ― eventually defeating Mahfoud to become a legitimate world champion for the first time of her career.

After two title defenses, also in 2024, against Dyana Vargas and Raven Chapman, Nicolson faced American challenger Tiana Brown on March 22nd in 2025 but suffered her first career loss and title in a split-decision defeat to Brown.

Boxing Style

A quick mover on her feet, Skye Nicolson favors outboxing her opponents while remaining relatively damage-free. In her homeground match against Krystina Jacobs, Nicolson demonstrated an increase in power by knocking her countryman down, and she is likely set to improve even further in this aspect as her career progresses.

Aside from being quick on her feet, Nicolson has also shown herself to have relatively fast hands, which are especially lethal when she heavily employs combinations. Though still a prospect, Nicolson’s fast amateur career has seen her demonstrate fairly high-level proficiency in the fundamentals of boxing, especially her footwork.

Her weak points seem to be centered around her inability to fight on the inside, which became most evident in her March 2025 fight against Tiara Brown who stifled her in the pocket and prevented Nicolson from fighting at her best.
