British Love reality television star and part-time pro boxer Tommy Fury has cancelled his planned January 18, 2025, bout that was set to be held against former UFC star Darren Till. The January 18th boxing event, promoted by KSI’s co-owned Misfits Boxing promotion, would see Fury and Till headline in an influencer-studded card but the fight will no longer feature in the Misfits show after Fury claimed continuous threats by Till to use MMA moves spurred him to withdraw from the bout.
Through a post released on his social media last week, Tommy Fury revealed that his match with Darren Till would be canceled after growing concerned about the former UFC star’s continuous barbs directed at him. According to Fury, statements Till made regarding him using attacks or tactics not allowed in professional boxing [e.g. kicking] spurred the part-time boxer to cancel the fight:
“I can’t believe I’m writing this but I am now not fighting Darren Till on January 18th, 2025, for the one simple reason being that Darren has stated over and over that he does not want to abide by professional boxing rules, and that if he is losing he will resort to kicking and other MMA tactics,” Fury posted on his social media account.
“I am a professional boxer, I have been out of the ring for over a year and I wanted this to be a great BOXING fight for the fans. I wasted weeks in training camp. We are working hard to get a new opponent and date. I promise to get you a better opponent and better fight for you guys. Good news around the corner.“
Fury, 25, last competed against famous British YouTube personality Olajide Olatunji [KSI] in October of 2023. scoring a close-knit unanimous decision [on the scorecards] over the influencer. Since then, the younger brother of decorated heavyweight star Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KO’s) remained absent from the ring until he was announced to be facing Darren Till.
Despite Fury’s claims, Till argued that the comments he made regarding the use of MMA moves were only made to promote the fight in a bid to spur up interest and that Fury had simply lost the will to face him:
“I said to everyone that Tommy [Fury] was going to pull out regardless of anything, I f****** knew it since the press conference,” Till said on a video he released on social media.
“So now, it’s confirmed what I said. He’s a s***house, [his] family are s***houses, and now Tommy’s not fighting. I’ve been hard at work boxing for two years. I haven’t thrown a kick in two years. I threw one kick on a video as a mental warfare tactic.
“Never in a million years would I throw a headkick in a fight that is only boxing rules. I stick to the rules, I’ve always abided by the rules throughout my whole career [as a MMA fighter], so now, I’ve got to the gym to do [my] sparring and Tommy Fury’s pulled out.“
The press conference held between Tommy Fury and Darren Till on November 19th notably saw Till threaten Fury with kicks and elbows while he further criticized the rest of the Fury family including trainer and father John Fury and Tyson Fury himself―which culminated in a semi-brawl between the fighters and their entourage.
Roughly a week after Tommy Fury alerted the public to the cancellation of his fight against Darren Till, he has since come out on video to proposedly challenge Jake Paul for a rematch of their 2023 bout:
“I’ve seen Logan Paul talk on his podcast yet again about how I don’t want to fight Jake [Paul] and I’m running scared, I’ve seen Jake Tweeting me the other day about how he offered me X, Y and Z on Netflix, I just wanted to come out here and say that no one is running from that fight,” Fury would state on his Instagram yesterday [December 10].
“I beat you once already, I handed you your first loss. The minute you stepped up and fought a real boxer, you lost. Fair and square. I can give you a second loss, that’s not a problem, but let’s talk some serious numbers down the funnel.
“At the end of the day, if you want a serious fight, let’s talk numbers. You know where I am.“
