British heavyweights (200+ lbs) Dillian Whyte (31-4, 21 KO’s) and Derek Chisora (36-13, 23 KO’s) will be staging a trilogy bout between each other, possibly next year, according to Queensberry Promotions founder and chairman Frank Warren who confirmed the news to The Ring.
According to Warren, the two fighters apparently already have their contracts signed with the bulk of the work now speculatively focused on arranging a suitable venue, date and undercard:
“Chisora vs. Whyte is done and dusted,” Warren told The Ring. “We’ve got a couple bits to sort out, but I’ll sort them out.“
In a prior interview with iFL TV, Frank Warren further suggested December as a possible date for the upcoming Whyte-Chisora card.
The news suggests an earlier exchange between the two fighters following the Parker-Wardley event where Chisora expressed his frustrations about the bout contract with Whyte being “unfair” has been resolved:
“There are certain things I saw in there which are not right,” Chisora told iFL TV this past Saturday. “It’s my contract. The show is my show.“
Whyte proceeded to respond more optimistically in return, promising the two were bound to fight each other despite the relative issues surrounding the bout contract.
The match between Dillian Whyte and Derek Chisora will be the third bout between the two fighters but appears relatively unnecessary given Whyte came out on top during both fights.
However, the two Brits still carry a significant reputation in British boxing that is sure to draw seats and eyes towards a fight that comes at arguably the right time with Chisora currently finding on a three-match winning streak at the age of 41 while Whyte still has enough in the tank to compete at heavyweight ― even after a shocking 1st round defeat to British heavyweight prospect Moses Itauma.
Potentially, the fight might also become Chisora’s last ever bout in boxing with rumors of the British veteran being close to retirement having swum around for roughly a year since his upset victory over Swedish heavyweight Otto Wallin.
