WBC’s British Heavyweight champion Tyson Fury successfully completed his trilogy match against Heavyweight veteran Derek Chisora by stopping the latter in the tenth round of their fight. Fury (33-0-1, 24 KO’s) already won the previous two matches against 38-year old Chisora (33-13, 23 KO’s), and didn’t prove anything different last Saturday at the Manchester Arena in Manchester.

Fury virtually controlled the fight throughout the entirety of the match, though the first round did look competitive. Chisora however, didn’t seem to be a match at this stage for Fury’s reach and boxing ability and Fury noticeably looked to pull back on his offense, rather than putting Chisora away early. Chisora didn’t offer a significant change in strategies as opposed to the previous matches and kept to his come-forward approach which saw Fury easily able to target him.

With Fury preventing Chisora from really gaining a rhythm through his jabs and bodyshots, the fight was eventually stopped in the tenth round after the referee had deemed Chisora had taken too much damage after a flurry of glancing – yet debilitating – combinations by Fury.

With that victory, Fury has gotten himself up to 33 wins and 24 KO’s while retaining his WBC world title for the second time of his career. Oleksandr Usyk (20-0, 13 KO’s), the Heavyweight division’s current unified champion with the WBA, WBO and IBF, was also present for the match and even stepped inside the ring to face off against Fury who proceeded to taunt the Ukrainian Heavyweight.

Fury’s taunts towards Usyk in the ring didn’t really seem to register with the Ukrainian – maybe due to the language barrier – who kept virtually calm and composed throughout Fury’s tirade, but the face off has drawn widespread speculation that an undisputed fight between the two could be on the cards soon.

Joe Joyce (15-0, 14 KO’s), Fury’s stablemate at Queensberry Promotions and a former opponent of Usyk, also stepped inside the ring for some lighthearted banter with the WBC champion and the unified champion, but Fury made it clear in the post-match in-ring interview that he wanted to face Oleksandr Usyk as his next opponent.

“I want Oleksandr Usyk next, or if that fight can’t be made, I want Joe Joyce.” Fury said.

Tyson Fury wasn’t too sure on the possibility of a fight occurring in February or March after this possibility was brought up in the interview: “I got to do some stuff and… I got some hand problems. I may have some surgery on my elbow but after that, I’m ready for anybody.”

According to the WBC Heavyweight champion’s words, once he recovers from the hand/elbow injury he’s dealing with, he will be open to fight Usyk first, and if that fight cannot occur, he will look to fight Joyce.

Joe Joyce has been in scintillating form since making his pro debut in 2017 following a renowned amateur career. With 14 out of 15 KO’s already, Joyce has established himself as a lethal finisher which is even more pronounced given his unbeaten record. If a fight between Usyk and Fury is not on the cards, Joe Joyce provides an excellent match for either one of these two champions who will be looking for a worthwhile opponent to add to their resume. There is also clear history between Joyce and the other champions; Joyce is currently signed to the same promotion as Fury and appear to have an amicable relationship, while Usyk and Joyce have previously faced each other at the World Series of Boxing, and Joyce will be looking to avenge the loss he took in that semi-pro tournament.
