The WBO has given Mexican fighter Jaime Munguia a “show cause” notice following his anti-doping violation for the illegal use of testosterone as his A- and B-samples identified through VADA testing. Munguia is set to participate in a meeting with the British Boxing Board of Control next month to determine his innocence or guilt in regards to his alleged PED use.

Following his May 3rd bout against French contender Bruno Surace, both of Jaime Munguia’s (45-2, 35 KO’s) A- and B-samples have come in positive but the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) will still be convening with the super middleweight (168 lbs) in an official hearing where Munguia and his team can present evidence to exonerate him.

According to Munguia’s team, their efforts will be focused on proving contamination occurred ― the most commonly-used defense for PED-users who often cite the use of supplements or tainted beverages/food to explain the presence of banned substances in their system.

Separate from the BBBofC’s upcoming hearing with Munguia, the WBO also requires an explanation from Munguia given he occupies the #3 spot on their 168 lbs rankings and the organization has issued a “show cause” notice. The “show cause” notice requires the Mexican contender to provide documentation and other forms of evidence to defend against the PED allegations.

A failure to respond with the necessary documents or an insufficient defense will likely result in Jaime Munguia being removed from the WBO’s rankings, and more repercussions can ensue that may result in a long-term ban; preventing Munguia from competing for any of the organization’s titles over a specific period.

Munguia has been given 10 days from June 26th until July 6th to react to the “show cause” notice.
