Bozy Ennis, father of top-rated Welterweight contender Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis (29-0, 27 KO’s) expressed his thoughts on his son’s standing within the boxing world, and the current state of the Welterweight division, in a recent interview with FightHype.

“Spence really want(s) the fight. I know he wants the fight.” Bozy Ennis said when asked about a potential matchup between Errol Spence Jr. (28-0, 22 KO’s) and Terence Crawford (39-0, 30 KO’s).

“Right now, I think Spence is (the number one at Welterweight). The reason why I said he number one is cause he got three of the belts.

“There are some good guys, but in the Welterweight (division) I say Spence.” Bozy clarified when asked on whether he thought Spence Jr. was the best in the world. “Spence is the best right now. You know, pound-for-pound I’d say cause look who he went through, to get to where he at though. He went through some top guys.”

Bozy also addressed the core reason of why Jaron Ennis is seemingly avoided by his peers, including Errol Spence Jr.

“Boots (Jaron) is high-risk, low-reward.” He said. “They (Errol Spence’s) people understand that.”

“No fighter is scared of another fighter.” Bozy continued. “It’s just business moves. Just like you say Rashidi Ellis is coming up, and Boots is coming up at the same time, why would they fight now? Until they get to where they trying to get to. They in the same lane, he (Rashidi Ellis) just on the other side and Boots on the other side. Wait till we get to the top. And then we fighting for something now.”

Jaron Ennis is set to co-main event with Georgian Welterweight contender Karen Chukhadzhian as they fight for the IBF interim Welterweight title on the Davis vs. Garcia event. With there not having been a mandatory fight for the IBF Welterweight title since Spence Jr. fought Kell Brook in 2017, it is possible that the winner for the IBF interim title might face Errol Spence sooner, rather than later.

Rashidi Ellis (24-0, 15 KO’s), another Welterweight prospect, will be featured in the same event on the undercard. He will be fighting Colombian Roiman Villa (25-1, 24 KO’s), a relatively unknown potential contender who boasts a tremendously high KO rate of 96%. Villa is currently ranked as #10 on the 147 lbs ranking boards of the IBF.
