Former multi-weight division champion Adrien Broner will make his long-awaited return to the ring on June 9th against fellow American Bill Hutchinson. Following a split from BLK Prime ― who failed to deliver him a single fight after signing him to a multi-million contract, Adrien Broner linked up with Don King and his promotion to resume his professional career after not having fought for over two years.
Adrien Broner’s (34-4-1, 24 KO’s) fight is set to take place at the Casino Miami Jai Alai (in Miami, Florida) as announced during the press conference held on May 9th which featured Adrien Broner, his trainer Kevin Cunningham and his promoter Don King ― founder and owner of Don King Productions which is currently promoting the fight between Broner and Bill Hutchinson (20-2-4, 9 KO’s).
Though most of the press conference featured Don King chatting for a long period about unrelated boxing topics, Adrien Broner offered some insight into the plans for his career after his long absence from the ring.
“If anybody ever knew me, man, I never dream small,” Broner asserted during the press conference.
“I always dream big and I personally know what I can do and what I can bring to the table. With the team that I got around me, that’s my coach (Kevin) Cunningham and now I got Don (King) backing me, to be brutally honest we’re unstoppable, and everybody can see that.”
Adrien Broner seems to be angling for a comeback at the world level after last fighting for a world title in 2019 when he faced Manny Pacquiao in what eventually became a UD loss. With nearly four years having passed since then, Broner has expressed confidence in being able to return to the top.
“I don’t have as much time as I had when I was younger, but I still have enough time to do what I want to do in this sport,” Adrien Broner said. “And with my team, coach Kevin Cunningham ― well uncle Kev to me ― and my granddaddy Don, we can do whatever we want.
“It’s really how far I want to go cause uncle Kev is gonna make sure I’m straight and I’m going to put the work in and Don gon’ put me where I need to be. It’s really up to me to go in there and get them victories.“
The 33-year old Adrien Broner also showed a level of maturity that he has rarely displayed throughout his career by maintaining he was focused solely on his scheduled fight with Bill Hutchinson by making it clear that he was not concerned about other boxing matches, such as Gervonta Davis’ (29-0, 27 KO’s) fight with Ryan Garcia (23-1, 19 KO’s).
“I ain’t worried about no one else but Hutchinson,” Broner said when asked about his thoughts on the Davis vs. Garcia fight. “After that we can do whatever the f*** we want, but right now I’m about handling my business on June 9th against Hutchinson.“
Though Bill Hutchinson has netted two wins and four draws during a career where he has fought in at least three different weight classes including the Super Welterweight, Welterweight and Super Lightweight divisions. Hutchinson has been a roll since losing for the second time of his career in 2016 and has thus far gone an unbeaten winning streak.
In addition to being a professional boxer, Hutchinson is also licensed as an attorney in the state of Pennsylvania under his birth name of “William” Hutchinson, and will be receiving the opportunity of a lifetime by stepping up in competition to face former multi-weight champion Adrien Broner.
However, Hutchinson’s bout with Adrien Broner at 147 pounds will see him fight for ten rounds for the first time of his career against a Broner who seems as or even more motivated than he had been when he was younger and dominating in his divisions. Despite Broner being his best fight, Hutchinson can put a stamp on his career with a victory over the former world champion and announce himself as the next rising star at Welterweight with a victory.
