Liam Smith has suffered an injury in training, resulting in the postponement of his June 17th bout with Chris Eubank Jr., per reports. The event that was supposed to be held at the Manchester Arena is still set to continue, but will no longer feature Smith and Eubank as the headliners.

Instead, the undisputed women’s Super Middleweight bout between Franchon Crews-Dezurn (8-1, 2 KO’s) and Savannah Marshall (12-1, 10 KO’s) is likely to become the main event of the fight card in Manchester while the match between Liam Smith (33-3-1, 20 KO’s) and Chris Eubank Jr. (32-3, 23 KO’s) will be moved to a later date, possibly to July.

In addition to potentially featuring a main event between Savannah Marshall and Franchon Crews-Dezurn, unified women’s Super Welterweight champion, Natasha Jonas, is also set to return to the ring on that card to defend three of her world titles against a yet-to-be-announced opponent.

Liam Smith, a former Super Welterweight contender who has recently made the transition to fight at Middleweight, has been in excellent form over the past two years, managing to stop every single one of his last four opponents since 2021. Though his win over Chris Eubank earlier this year in January was considered somewhat of an upset, it was not entirely surprising given Smith seemed to have only grown since first starting out as a professional in 2008.

Though, for some reason, no one could verify what sort of injury he suffered, it is not deemed too serious as current plans seem to plan to move the domestic match up to somewhere in July, just weeks after the original date of June 17th.

Chris Eubank Jr., son of the famed British Middleweight Chris Eubank, is currently seeking to repair his career after suffering a fourth-round stoppage defeat to Liam Smith. Having never been stopped before, Eubank’s career now hangs in the balance following a loss that many would consider to be too early.

Though he had been angling to fight Conor Benn (21-0, 14 KO’s) ― son of professional boxer Nigel Benn who was a rival to Chris Eubank Sr., a Liam Smith fight seems more vital given the embarrassing loss Eubank Jr. suffered against another fighter who had arguably been evenly-matched with him.

Update

The rematch between Liam Smith and Chris Eubank Jr. is set to commence on July 1st, according to Sky Sports who will televise the non-title bout between the two British fighters. In addition to their fight being moved, the other respective fights that were on the card will also be featured on July 1st rather than June 17th, including the undisputed bout between Savannah Marshall and Franchon Crews-Dezurn.
