Background

Denzel Bentley had no amateur career of note, and apparently financed his boxing training working at Sainbury’s. In 2017, Bentley made his professional debut as a professional boxer.

Accomplishments

Denzel Bentley debuted as a Middleweight and has, thus far, remained in the division. He started his career positively with an unbeaten run that lasted up until September of 2020 when he drew with Mark Heffron in their first match, though he stopped the fellow Brit in their rematch in November of 2020, and won the British title – first title of his career – in the process.

His following bout was against countryman Felix Cash who – like Bentley – was on the trajectory of becoming a contender  for a world title in 2021. Bentley was unfortunately stopped in his match against Cash in just the third round, but he resumed his career fairly quickly after the debilitating loss, fighting successfully later in November where he stopped his opponent in the process.

After two more fights in 2022 – winning another British title after his first bout, Bentley received his first world title opportunity against highly-lauded former amateur boxer Janibek Alimkhanuly in November of 2022. Proving his determination and willingness to win, Bentley seemed to do fairly well in the earlier rounds but later succumbed to Alimkhanuly’s fine-tuned boxing skills; Bentley lost that bout by unanimous decision.

Boxing Style

denzel bentley boxing style

Denzel Bentley adopts a brawler-style of boxing, often being aggressive and coming forward at the cost of leaving himself open. This has made him vulnerable on many occasions, and has even cost him at least one match – referring to his bout with Felix Cash – but simultaneously Bentley is undoubtedly one of the more toughest opponents in his division.

Bentley seems to struggle somewhat at long range as he is not an efficient jabber, but he often compensates this by launching relentless combinations that have stopped more than a few combatants.

Despite fighting out of the orthodox stance, Bentley is also capable of fighting as a southpaw, though he does this sparingly. He has recently also shown an ability to shift his weight to his back foot, and as a result has developed a decent grasp over defensive fundamentals and counter attacking.
