Former British heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua (24-3, 22 KO’s) has answered Tyson Fury’s (32-0-1, 23 KO’s) challenge to fight him for the WBC world championship.

After Fury’s recent announcement that Oleksandr Usyk wasn’t looking to fight again in 2022 after beating Anthony Joshua for the second time in a row, Fury was quick to go on social media to call out his fellow Brit for a fight in December, according to his Twitter page:

Tyson Fury’s Twitter account suggesting he and Anthony Joshua should fight in December.

AJ was quick to respond to Fury’s tweet with his own: ‘Yea calm. I don’t do the online discussions just for clout, so if your really about it shout @258mgt. I’ll be ready in December. Khalas.’

Anthony Joshua’s message on the potential Fury fight.

The ball is in now Fury’s court as he will be expected to start the negotiations to make the fight happen. Eddie Hearn – AJ’s longtime manager and promoter – has yet to respond to the potential match-up. He is currently involved with the Álvarez vs. GGG which has been scheduled for the 10th of September. It is unknown on which channel the potential fight between the two Brits would be broadcasted – given Fury is tied to ESPN or BT Sports through his management, and AJ is tied to DAZN or Sky Sports – but it is likely to generate a huge amount of interest, especially in regards to ticket sales if a match was to happen in the UK.

Despite his recent losses, Joshua’s reputation as a ‘cash cow’ and Fury’s own popularity in the UK would likely break records in ticket sales. A fight in Saudi Arabia might also be in the works as the country has staged at least two Heavyweight unification fights in the past year. The USA also remains a viable option for a fight between Fury and Joshua.
