Undisputed super lightweight (140 lbs) champion Katie Taylor (24-1, 6 KO’s) and Amanda Serrano (47-3-1, 31 KO’s) will be stepping into the ring for the third time after two prior bouts held in 2022 and 2024. The first bout was held at lightweight (135 lbs) and culminated in Taylor retaining all her 135-pound titles through a split-decision (SD) victory. The second match saw Taylor hold onto her 140-pound titles after a unanimous decision (UD) victory.
The two fighters will further be headlining a card on June 11th and staged at the Madison Square Garden in New York. Like their previous match, Taylor’s super lightweight titles will be on the line. The card will further be broadcasted on Netflix; marking the second time a relevant boxing card will be featured on the streaming network. The first remains the infamous card which featured Jake Paul and Mike Tyson, and also saw Taylor and Serrano compete as a part of the card’s co-main event.
While both of the first two fights were won by Katie Taylor, they were both subjected to controversy with opinions split between who won. The second fight, which culminated in a UD win for Taylor, carried a similar amount of dispute, especially given claims Taylor had frequently and deliberately headbutted Serrano.
The highly-polarized results of the first two matches further drives another part of their fights that made a trilogy match inevitable; profit. With both Taylor and Serrano regarded as two of the best female fighters in boxing, the interest in their bouts had always had a significant following that will undoubtedly manifest in their third match.
Both Matchroom and Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) will be jointly promoting the upcoming bout. The full schedule of fights will be unveiled over the next couple of weeks.
