British champion Natasha Jonas and American contender Mikaela Mayer are set to face off on a Boxxer-promoted card on January 20th, with Jonas defending her IBF welterweight title against Mayer. The Britain versus United States title bout will headline the event at the Echo Arena in Liverpool.

Natasha Jonas (14-2-1, 9 KO’s) aims to retain the title she recently won on July 1st, defeating Canadian Kandi Wyatt (11-5, 3 KO’s) to capture the IBF welterweight title. Having previously succeeded at 154 lbs, where she became a unified champion in 2022 and later unified twice to secure two more belts, Jonas decided to move down a division to welterweight after a potential rematch with WBA champion Terri Harper.

While Jonas’ decision to move down in weight remains to be seen, she faces a challenging defense against former world champion Mikaela Mayer (19-1, 5 KO’s).

Mayer held the WBO super featherweight title for two years, winning it in 2020, and later unified with French IBF champion Maiva Hamadouche (22-2, 18 KO’s) in 2021. In late 2022, Mayer lost all her titles in a controversial defeat to Alycia Baumgardner (15-1, 7 KO’s), ending her two-year reign as a world champion.

After her loss to Baumgardner, Mayer moved up to lightweight, securing the WBC interim lightweight title in April 2023 by defeating Lucy Wildheart (10-2, 4 KO’s). She then moved up again to super lightweight, securing a victory over Italian veteran Silvia Bortot (11-3-1, 3 KO’s).

Now, Mayer aims to become a two-division champion by challenging Jonas for the IBF welterweight title. Jonas, having recently become a multi-weight champion, presents strong opposition.

The fight promises to be tough and intriguing, featuring two pound-for-pound fighters entering the ring on January 20th to further solidify their legacy in the sport.

Complementing the card will be a domestic bout between British super middleweights Jack Cullen and Zak Chelli, contesting the British and Commonwealth super middleweight titles.
