Former Super Lightweight unified champion, Regis Prograis, declared himself to be a free agent following his stint with the now-tarnished Probellum. Reaching out through his social media outlets, the American WBC Junior Welterweight champion seems to be aiming as high as possible in the wake of his free agency status.

Having been signed to Probellum since October of 2021, Regis Prograis (28-1, 24 KO’s) fought three times since signing with the promotion, with his last win culminating in him becoming a WBC world champion at 140 lbs after knocking out Jose Zepeda (35-3, 27 KO’s) in a sensational match.

Before his current stint as the WBC champion, Regis Prograis had been a WBA champion in the same division back in April 2019 while competing in the Super Lightweight-centered edition of the World Boxing Super Series, but he lost his title in his next match to Josh Taylor (19-0, 13 KO’s), losing by a close majority decision in the process when the two met in the ring of October of that year.

Recovering from his first career loss, Prograis has since then launched onto a winning streak that has seen him stop or knockout every opponent he’s met in the ring. Addressing the fans on his social media, Regis Prograis clarified his current status.

Unfortunately, a lot of boxing politics they been getting in my way.” Regis Prograis explained. “Of course I want to stay active, I want to fight, but the big news is that I’m a free agent right now.

I’m a free agent so I feel like now, I’m really going to get all the big fights, the fights that everybody wants to see.

The big fights, the big names, the big money, all the belts, you know? That’s my goal to clean up the division, so now that I’m a free agent… sh** about to get poppin’.” The WBC champion confidently declared.

Regis Prograis is the second well-known fighter to leave Probellum, and the news of his departure barely comes a week after it was announced that Sunny Edwards, another Probellum fighter, was signed to Matchroom.

It is another sign that Probellum is on the brink of collapse ― or perhaps has already collapsed ― following the breakdown of multiple business deals, sponsorships and relationships they had due to their alleged links to suspected crime lord Daniel Kinnahan.

As Regis Prograis is now a free agent, there are multiple avenues for him to travel, which includes signing up with any of the other big name promotions that are still going strong in the boxing world including Matchroom, Top Rank and PBC.

Otherwise, Regis Prograis can travel the same path as former Super Lightweight undisputed champion Terence Crawford (39-0, 30 KO’s) and operate solely on a fight-to-fight basis with other promotions. The same sort of method has also been successfully by several other fighters which includes the Lightweight’s current undisputed champion, Devin Haney (29-0, 15 KO’s), and British top-rated Heavyweight, Dillian Whyte (29-3, 19 KO’s).
